Housing Loss Prevention Advice Service (HLPAS)
The Legal Aid Agency (LAA) funds the Housing Loss Prevention Advice Service (HLPAS) throughout England and Wales to provide:
- Early Legal Advice to anyone at risk of possession proceedings and loss of their home – advice can be provided in relation to Housing, Debt and Welfare Benefits issues.
- In Court Duty on the day emergency advice and advocacy to anyone facing possession proceedings.
The service enables anyone at risk of losing their home or facing possession proceedings to get free legal advice, and representation in court, regardless of their financial circumstances.

PIO LEGAL SERVICES LTD (SOLICITORS) is able to provide free legal advice and support under the HLPAS Scheme to anyone that has been served with any court paper regarding the repossession of their home by either a landlord, local authority, lessor, licensor, or a mortgage lender. Once you have been issued any notice, whether for possession or eviction, in any form, our team of solicitors and caseworkers is always available to provide free legal advice tailored to the specific problem you are facing.
We also provide Court Duty support, where we can attend and represent you in court. For this, we prepare you ahead of your court hearing, review your papers, and provide legal representation in court. We also have a duty to ensure you understand the outcome of your case after the hearing. We do this by sending an outcome letter to your email or handing over a prepared letter if it is not possible to receive one by email
It is very possible for us to continue to represent you in your matter, where we may apply to the Legal Aid Agency for a certificate of funding to enable us to do so. However, this is subject to a financial means test.
